Post IVF Pregnancy Care: IVF प्रेग्नन्सीमध्ये काळजी कशी घ्यावी

Once you are pregnant after successful IVF treatment, it is important to maintain the healthy pregnancy so as to achieve high IQ baby. Post IVF pregnancy care is very important. It is very important to avoid any complications during pregnancy as it can be fatal to both baby and mother’s life.

Dr. Gopalkrishna Gawade of City Fertility Centre, Pune has explained post IVF pregnancy care in his interview on Zee News. Watch Video here,

Pregnancy Test: During IVF treatment, you should not obtain an early at-home pregnancy test. A blood test will most likely be scheduled 10 to 14 days after the egg extraction. The blood test will identify and measure the “pregnancy hormone,” Beta hCG.

During pregnancy mother must visit doctor for prenatal checkup every weekly till 32-34 weeks of pregnancy and then every weekly. During prenatal checkup doctor will perform various tests and routine examination protocols along with ultrasonography to assess growth of baby and mother’s health status.

  1. Anemia: Severe iron deficiency anemia during pregnancy increases the risk of premature birth (when delivery occurs before 37 complete weeks of pregnancy). Iron deficiency anemia during pregnancy is also associated with having a low-birth-weight baby and postpartum depression. For this regular blood tests are done to understand levels of hemoglobin. And to avoid anemia, iron & folic acid supplements are provided.
  2. Preeclampsia: A potentially dangerous pregnancy complication characterized by high blood pressure. Pre-eclampsia usually begins after 20 weeks of pregnancy in a woman whose blood pressure had been normal. It can lead to serious, even fatal, complications for both mother and baby. There may be no symptoms. High blood pressure and protein in the urine are key features. There may also be swelling in the legs and water retention, but this can be hard to distinguish from normal pregnancy. Pre-eclampsia can often be managed with oral or IV medication until the baby is sufficiently mature to be delivered. This often requires weighing the risks of early delivery versus the risks of continued pre-eclampsia symptoms.
  3. Gestational Diabetes: A form of high blood sugar affecting pregnant women. Those who develop gestational diabetes are at higher risk of developing type 2 diabetes later in life. In most cases, there are no symptoms. A blood sugar test during pregnancy is used for diagnosis. Treatment strategies include daily blood sugar monitoring, a healthy diet, exercise and monitoring the baby. Baby may grow large in gestational diabetes leading to complications during delivery. If blood sugar is too high, medication is required.
  4. Infections: Any bacterial or fungal or parasitic infection can lead to miscarriage. Infection can be dangerous during pregnancy as it can cause problems for unborn babies, leading to congenital problems such as hearing loss, visual impairment or blindness, learning difficulties and epilepsy. As many antibiotic or other medications are teratogenic i.e., those adversely affecting babies development; so those drugs cannot be used in pregnancy.
